Following up

These last 2 weeks have been doozies! All kinds of baby activity!

First, Monday the 2nd, I thought was day 1 of my 2nd trimester. Since then, I’ve just gotten confused about how long a trimester actually is. I’m sorta settled at it being 13 weeks and about 2-3 days (3 doesn’t divide evenly into 40). So, on that Monday I had Nathan take a picture of my belly. However, I now believe that yesterday was day 1 of my 2nd trimester…so the picture is a week early. Oh well, the baby hasn’t grown that much since.

Tuesday afternoon and Wendesday of last week, I stayed home from work b/c of sudden extreme pregnancy fatigue. I can never guess when it’s going to happen. That following Saturday & Sunday, Nathan & I went to bed at 8:30! I woke up around 7:30/8-ish, had breakfast and then fell asleep on the couch for an early morning nap!

Thursday was our 2nd Dr’s Appt. and we got to hear the heartbeat! Yea! The doc was sorta anti-climatic about it but none-the-less I had a huge smile on my face for the rest of the day. Wow! It just made this whole pregnancy experience “real”. I don’t know if that makes sense but I’m sure moms-to-be and moms know what I’m talking about. It’s all a mental/emotional awareness in the middle of this sickness for 3 months. But to have an actual sensory experience aside from the nausea and heartburn – that’s when it’s “real”. The baby’s heartbeat was really fast like a techno/rave music rhythm. That’s the only way I can describe it.

Saturday we started our registries. We’ve got them at Target, BabiesRUs and a nifty little online registry system. For details, email me and I can give you any needed passwords, etc. I’d heard it before but BabiesRUs really does suck all the living energy out of you. We will have to make several trips to get everything we need on the registry and to make proper decisions on the 500,000 car seat/stroller options!

And finally, but certainly not least, yesterday wins as the most dramatic pregnancy day so far. Early Monday morning I got up to go to the bathroom and I could barely stand up, much less walk to the bathroom. I felt like I’d just participated in those dizzy bat relay races. I had a straight shot to the bathroom but kept going left, nearly into the dresser. I quickly got out my pregnancy books to figure out what was going on. It could either be Anemia (which my blood tests had not found proof of) or low blood sugar. So, I followed the advice of the book and sent Nathan to the kitchen for Saltines. I ate several of those and went back to sleep hoping I would sleep it off. Nope. So, I called the Nurse On Call. She told me it was low blood sugar but saltines and Malt-o-meal (what I had for breakfast) wasn’t going to “cut it”. Juice was what I needed and lots of protein, fluids and rest. So, I stayed home from work again (sorry team) and layed in bed most of the day. The juice was like “miracle water”. My dizziness dramatically decreased after several small glasses. But my energy level took the rest of the day to build up. Early this morning at 3:30 I was hungry so made myself get out of bed to eat and avoid the previous morning’s happenings. I had half a bagel with peanut butter (nurses directions exactly) plus 2 glasses of juice and a glass of milk. By the time I woke up I was so hungry and I was a little dizzy. So, I weighted myself in fear that I might have gestational diabetes. But, I’ve gained some weight even since last Thursday. So, I’m not sure what the problem is. I definitely plan to talk to my doc at my next appt. or earlier if need be. That was such a scary experience though.

Well, that’s the baby drama up-to-date. I think I’ve calculated that we’ll have our ultrasound to find out the gender on the week after Thanksgiving. Sorry fam, we’ll have to wait till after T-day to share the news & celebrate. :(
